Horde Defenders Tower Tier List Hub
Editorial rankings for the Oct 2026 alpha meta—subject to patches.
This Tier List Hub ranks towers for Horde Defenders on Roblox as of the October 2026 alpha. Horizon Studios is still iterating, so treat every placement as an editorial opinion, not a patch note. Balance can flip after a refund pass or a new armor type. Use the list to prioritize Scrap and Gems, then re-check after each update on the Updates Hub and Alpha Status pages.
Horde Defenders is a manual-aim tower defense game. Towers do not auto-select targets; they fire where you point. That single rule changes the meta: raw DPS on paper means less if you cannot track a column, and a slower gun that rewards high ground and clean aim can outplay a cheaper spray tower. High ground also grants more range and damage, so placement quality often beats roster depth.
Currencies matter. Scrap funds placement and mid-run upgrades. Gems and Boosters accelerate permanent progress. Early Scrap should go into reliable tools you can aim under pressure—see the dedicated Early-Game Tier List for the Sentry → Barricade → Howitzer path and when Railgun becomes worth unlocking. For heroes specifically, jump to the Heroes Tier List and the Heroes Hub.
How we rank (Oct 2026 alpha)
Criteria, in order: (1) performance when aimed well on high ground, (2) value in campaign chokepoints across the 59 levels / 5 worlds, (3) usefulness in Challenges and Endless, (4) Scrap efficiency before heavy Gem investment, (5) forgiveness if aim slips for a second. Soft-reported towers (Inferno, Hive, Nest, Burst Cannon) sit in a separate note until they are consistently confirmed in live builds.
S tier — aim rewards, clear jobs
Howitzer — Column AoE is the fantasy the store page sells: aim into a packed lane and delete a slice of the swarm. On high ground the splash radius and damage bonus make it the default answer to dense bugs. Bad aim wastes shells into empty dirt; good aim is game-winning. Pair with stalls so the column bunches before impact.
Railgun — Armor and priority shredder. When tougher bugs or boss phases show up, Railgun earns its keep by punching the right target while cheaper guns handle fillers. Manual aim shines here: you choose the threat, not an auto-aggro script. Place elevated when possible so the shot window stays open longer.
Barricade — Not DPS, but it creates the time your aim needs. Stall the front of the tide so Howitzer and Tar Lobber hit packed groups instead of stragglers. In a manual-aim game, stall tools are force multipliers for every gun behind them.
A tier — strong with a plan
Tar Lobber — Slow and area denial. Lob onto approach lanes and high-traffic turns so bugs linger in kill zones. Synergizes with Howitzer and Barbed Wire. Slightly less “instant delete” than Howitzer, but excellent for Challenges where you need control more than burst.
Sentry — Starter DPS that stays relevant longer than most tutorials admit. Cheap, honest, and perfect for learning aim cadence. On high ground a few Sentries cover early worlds while you save for Railgun or Howitzer. Falls off as the sole damage source in late campaign and Endless, but remains a fine filler.
Barbed Wire — Slow and damage zone along the path. Best as a belt in front of Barricades or under Howitzer impact points. Rewards maps with predictable lanes; weaker if bugs fan out wide with no choke.
B tier — situational or investment-heavy
Dreadnought — Heavy hitter for when you need raw presence. Strong when you can afford it and keep it aimed at priority clusters. The SORRY code grants a Dreadnought skin (cosmetic); do not confuse skin ownership with free unlock power. Check Codes for current rewards. In pure Scrap efficiency, Howitzer and Railgun usually come first.
Stormcaller — Also tied to a SORRY skin drop in alpha promotions. Treat performance as mid-pack until your account has stable access and you have practiced its aim pattern. Useful as a flex gun once core S/A pieces are online; not the first Gem sink for brand-new accounts.
C tier — niche or soft-confirmed only
Soft-reported (unconfirmed / inconsistent in community reports): Inferno, Hive, Nest, and Burst Cannon. Players and scripts sometimes name these, but they are not treated as firm meta pillars on this wiki until Horizon’s live roster consistently shows them. If you unlock one, test it on a familiar campaign map before investing Gems. Rank them as experimental C-side options for now.
Anything else that appears only in Workshop experiments or datamine chatter stays off the main ladder. Prefer verified tools from the storefront description: Sentries, Railguns, Barricades, Barbed Wire, Tar Lobbers, and the heavier named guns above.
Placement beats paper DPS
Before you chase a higher tier name, fix placement. Read High Ground and How to Aim. Elevate damage towers, stack stalls at the funnel, and keep your crosshair on the densest part of the column—not the lead bug alone. A B-tier gun on perfect high ground often beats an S-tier gun on flat bad ground with shaky aim.
Mode notes
Campaign (59 / 5 worlds): Lean Sentry early, add Barricade, then Howitzer; unlock Railgun when armor shows up. See Early-Game Tier List and Getting Started.
Challenges: Favor Tar Lobber, Barbed Wire, and Barricade for control; bring Railgun if the modifier stresses tough targets.
Endless: Sustain and stall matter more than opening burst. Rotate aim between lanes; keep a hero possessed when micro matters—Endless Mode and Heroes Guide.
Workshop: Rankings loosen; build lanes that reward Howitzer columns and Barricade stalls if you want “fair” tests of the live meta.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Horde Defenders questions.
Is this Horde Defenders tier list official?
No. It is an editorial opinion for the October 2026 alpha meta and can change whenever Horizon Studios patches towers or economy.
Why do Howitzer and Barricade rank so high?
Manual aim rewards packed columns and time to track them. Howitzer deletes bunched bugs; Barricade creates that bunching. High ground amplifies both.
Are Inferno, Hive, Nest, and Burst Cannon real?
They are soft-reported only. This wiki keeps them off the firm S–A ladder until they are consistently confirmed in live builds.
Does the SORRY code unlock Dreadnought and Stormcaller?
SORRY has granted Dreadnought and Stormcaller skins (cosmetics). Check the Codes page for what is active; skins are not the same as free tower unlocks.
Where should new players start on this list?
Follow the Early-Game Tier List: Sentry, then Barricade, then Howitzer, unlocking Railgun when armored threats appear. Redeem codes for Scrap and Boosters first.
Do hero rankings live here too?
Hero placements are on the Heroes Tier List under this hub, with deeper kits on the Heroes Hub pages for Warden, Marksman, and Sentinel.
