Horde Defenders Heroes Hub
Warden, Marksman, and Sentinel—AI companions or possessable fighters.
Horde Defenders gives you three heroes: Warden, Marksman, and Sentinel. Each can fight on AI or under your direct control. This Heroes Hub is the roster overview for the October 2026 alpha—pair it with the Heroes Guide for general systems, the Heroes Tier List for opinionated rankings, and the individual deep pages linked below.
Towers still win maps. Heroes exist to buy time, delete priority threats, and cover the moments your manual aim is busy elsewhere. High ground and Barricade stalls remain the foundation; heroes plug holes in that foundation. If you are brand new, finish Getting Started and learn How to Aim before you obsess over hero micro.
The trio at a glance
Warden — frontline / tanky presence
Warden is the default learning hero. Park near Barricades and Barbed Wire, let AI hold the lip of the choke, and possess when a spike threatens to break through. Ideal while your gun line is still Sentry- and Howitzer-centric. Full guide: Warden.
Marksman — ranged precision
Marksman rewards the same habits as Railgun play: pick the valuable target, lead movement, and use elevation when you can. Best possessed during armor checks and boss windows; fine on AI as background DPS when lanes are clean. Full guide: Marksman.
Sentinel — hybrid / guard
Sentinel flexes between holding a point and assisting awkward lanes. Slightly higher multitask demand than Warden, slightly less pure delete than a hot Marksman possess. Excels in Challenges and Workshop maps with multiple approaches. Full guide: Sentinel.
AI versus possess — the real skill check
Leave on AI when: you must aim Howitzers into columns, track Railgun priorities, or manage Tar Lobber zones. Decent AI damage beats a hero you ignore while your towers shoot dirt.
Possess when: a boss phase starts, a Barricade is about to fail, a priority bug enters a sightline Marksman can punish, or Endless splits your attention across lanes and you need a body on the worst one.
Anti-pattern: possessing full-time on easy waves so your towers go unaimed. Horde Defenders is a manual-aim tower game first; hero control is a tool, not the whole fantasy.
How heroes fit the tower plan
Follow the Early-Game Tier List for Scrap: Sentry → Barricade → Howitzer, then Railgun when armor appears. Slot heroes on top of that plan:
- Warden + Barricade + Barbed Wire = time for Howitzer aim
- Marksman + high ground + Railgun habits = priority deletion
- Sentinel + Tar Lobber slows = flexible guard in thickened packs
Soft-reported towers (Inferno, Hive, Nest, Burst Cannon) do not change the hero trio—build around confirmed guns from the Tier List Hub.
Mode recommendations
Campaign (59 levels / 5 worlds): Start Warden. Introduce Marksman possess on clearer sightline maps. Bring Sentinel when secondary paths appear.
Challenges: Match the modifier. Leak pressure → Warden or Sentinel. Single tough targets → Marksman.
Endless: Expect more possess time as waves escalate. Rotate if one kit feels sticky under fatigue—Endless Mode.
Workshop: Design chokes for Warden demos and long alleys for Marksman demos if you share maps.
Progression and alpha caveats
Hero feel can shift when Horizon Studios patches AI, damage, or possess controls. There is no official Discord yet; watch the Horizon Studios Roblox group and our Updates Hub plus Alpha Status. Redeem Codes for Scrap, Gems, and Boosters so you are not starving towers while you practice heroes. The SORRY code’s Dreadnought and Stormcaller rewards are tower skins—cosmetic, not new heroes.
Child guides
- Warden — tanky frontline deep dive
- Marksman — precision and possess timing
- Sentinel — hybrid guard playbooks

Pick one hero to master per session. Spreading possess practice across all three before you can aim a Howitzer column will slow your clear times more than any tier chart admits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Horde Defenders questions.
How many heroes are in Horde Defenders?
Three in the live alpha fantasy: Warden, Marksman, and Sentinel. Each can fight on AI or be possessed.
Which hero is best for beginners?
Warden. Tanky frontline presence forgives mistakes and pairs with Barricades while you learn manual tower aim.
Do I have to control my hero the whole match?
No. Leave them on AI while you aim towers, then possess for bosses, leaks, or priority targets.
Where is the hero tier list?
See the Heroes Tier List under Tier List. This Heroes Hub links full guides for each character.
Can heroes replace Howitzers and Railguns?
No. Heroes support your gun line. Invest Scrap in towers and stalls first, then use heroes to cover gaps.
Are hero kits final in alpha?
No. Expect changes. Track patches via the Updates Hub and Alpha Status while Horizon Studios iterates.
