Horde Defenders Endless Mode

Survive infinite waves, manage Scrap, and climb leaderboards with late-game comps built for sustain.

Last updated:

Endless Mode is where Horde Defenders stops handing you a scripted boss schedule and asks how long your manual aim, funnels, and Scrap economy can last. Leaderboards track the players who treat every wave as both a threat and an income spike. This guide covers when to enter Endless, how scoring pressure differs from the 59-level campaign, what late-wave comps look like, and how heroes plus strikes keep a run alive after the comfortable mid-game ends.

You should already be comfortable with Getting Started, How to Aim, and High Ground. Hero multitasking from Heroes Guide becomes mandatory once dual pressure spikes appear.

Endless versus campaign

Challenges remix campaign rules; Endless is the pure stamina mode. Workshop maps can host custom endless-like layouts, but leaderboard talk on this page means the official Endless experience unless a patch says otherwise.

When you are ready

Enter Endless when you can:

  • Track a full dense column without freezing the cursor.
  • Build a Barricade + Barbed Wire funnel under elevated DPS on demand.
  • Possess Warden, Marksman, or Sentinel without instantly leaking.
  • Spend strikes on stacks instead of cooldown panic.

If early campaign maps still leak from flat Sentry spam, stay in story mode and drill High Ground first. Endless magnifies bad habits.

Scoring and leaderboard mindset

Exact point formulas can shift in alpha, but the practical scoring mindset stays stable:

  1. Survive longer — every extra wave is usually worth more than a greedy early all-in that dies.
  2. Keep the outpost healthy — big leaks end runs and erase scoring potential.
  3. Convert Scrap into lasting DPS and layers — unused Scrap when you die is wasted score.
  4. Avoid ego possesses — a flashy hero dive that drops the main lane costs the run.

Play for clean waves. Highlight clips matter less than another three minutes of stable tracking.

Use Boosters from Codes on serious attempts if you want longer focus windows; redeem help is on How to Redeem.

Scrap economy for infinite waves

Scrap from kills must outpace the HP and density growth of the swarm.

Early Endless (foundation)

  • One elevated Sentry covering a real funnel.
  • Barricade + wire before a second luxury gun.
  • Tar Lobber if slows are missing.
  • Hero on AI until the first spike wave.

Mid Endless (scaling)

  • Upgrade the primary cone before spreading.
  • Add Railgun or Howitzer that shares the same pocket.
  • Unlock heavier options (Dreadnought, Stormcaller, and community-reported Inferno / Hive / Nest / Burst Cannon) only when they reinforce the cone.
  • Start scheduled strike uses on stacked gates.

Late Endless (sustain)

  • Repair and re-layer Barricades the moment they wobble.
  • Keep an emergency strike for true overflow.
  • Possess heroes only on scripted personal triggers (elite breakers, mini-boss style spikes).
  • Delete or ignore pads that steal attention without adding overlapping DPS.

Alpha meta-progression (including older tech tree talk) may change how permanent bonuses work. If a system was refunded, do not plan Endless around screenshots from outdated posts — verify in your build and trust in-run Scrap decisions.

Late-wave compositions

A durable Endless comp is a system, not a shopping list:

  1. Elevated primary tracker (Sentry lineage)
  2. Elevated finisher (Railgun or heavy tower)
  3. Lob / area (Howitzer or similar) aimed at the wire pocket
  4. Slow stack (Tar + Barbed Wire)
  5. Hard gate (Barricade layers)
  6. Hero matched to the failure mode (Warden for breaches, Marksman for elites)
  7. Strike suite with at least one stasis or heavy area tool saved

Cross-check current strength on Tier List Hub, early-game tier list, and heroes tier list. Endless leans on the same towers as late campaign; it just demands cleaner execution for longer.

Aim stamina

Endless is an aim marathon. Habits from How to Aim matter more at wave 40 than wave 4:

  • Micro-move the reticle; do not lock solid and drift.
  • After every strike, forced re-acquire.
  • Priority: leak threats → breakers → column body.
  • Take a breath during natural lulls to reset posture on PC or grip on mobile (Controls).

When your aim accuracy drops, simplify: stop possessing, park the hero on AI, and pure-track the funnel for several waves.

Hero and strike schedule

Treat abilities like timed maintenance:

  • Stasis when the gate is about to collapse and you need ten seconds of free DPS.
  • Meteor / drone / ripsaw / salvo when the pocket is visibly stacked.
  • Possess Marksman for armored elites that shrug trash DPS.
  • Possess Warden when the Barricade line is cracking.
  • Sentinel for control windows depending on current kit tuning — confirm in Players Hub.

Never empty every cooldown because they are up. Endless always has a harder wave after the one you just barely survived.

Run plan template

  1. Open Endless after warming up on a campaign map for five minutes of pure tracking.
  2. Build the funnel before wave pressure spikes.
  3. First Scrap spike → upgrade primary elevated gun.
  4. Second spike → complete wire + Barricade layer.
  5. Mid run → add lobber / finisher sharing the cone.
  6. Late run → repair layers, schedule strikes, minimize camera tourism.
  7. On death, note whether failure was aim, economy, or layout — fix that one thing next attempt.

Common Endless failures

  • Expanding to three lanes because it “felt safer.”
  • Hoarding Scrap while Barricades sit at low upgrade.
  • Possessing through an entire dense wave with cold towers.
  • Spending the last strike on a non-lethal clump.
  • Ignoring codes Boosters on a personal best attempt.
  • Copying a campaign boss layout that has no repair plan.

Endless rewards the patient engineer who aims like a pilot. Build one cone, feed it Scrap, and make every wave buy another minute on the board.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Horde Defenders questions.

When should I start Endless Mode?

After you can clear mid campaign maps with a high-ground funnel, stable column tracking, and basic hero possess without instant leaks.

How do Endless leaderboards work?

They rank long survival and scoring performance. Exact formulas can change in alpha, so prioritize clean extra waves over risky early all-ins.

What is a good late-wave composition?

Elevated tracker plus finisher, a lobber into wire, Tar and Barricade layers, a hero matched to your failure mode, and a saved strike for true overflows.

Should I spend Scrap immediately in Endless?

Spend on the working cone and gate upgrades. Hoarding while Barricades melt usually ends the run with unused currency.

Do campaign bosses appear in Endless?

Endless focuses on escalating waves and stamina. Treat spike waves like boss pressure even when the campaign script is not running.

Can Boosters help Endless attempts?

Yes. Timed Boosters from codes can smooth long attempts. Redeem them before a serious run via the Codes Hub.
